January 2022 SMCDFA Monthly Meeting - Featuring Jackie Speier

San Mateo County Democracy for America is honored to present Congresswoman Jackie Speier as our speaker for our first meeting of 2022--we couldn't think of a better way to start the year!

This remarkable legislator was named to Newsweek’s list of 150 “Fearless Women” in the world and one of “Politico's 50” most influential people in American politics for bringing the Me Too reckoning to Congress.

She proudly represents California’s 14th Congressional District, stretching from the southern portion of San Francisco through San Mateo County to East Palo Alto.

Prior to Congress, Jackie spent 18 years in both chambers of the California Legislature, where she had more than 300 bills signed into law by both Republican and Democratic governors.

On November 16, Congresswoman Speier announced her decision not to seek reelection at the end of her current term next year, saying that after almost forty years in public service, "It's time for me to come home."  Her constituents were stunned by the news that we will lose this leader universally described as fearless--a crusader for women’s equality, LGBTQ rights, and the disenfranchised, someone who has dedicated her life to eliminating government corruption while strengthening America’s national and economic security.

SMCDFA has long admired the congresswoman and appreciated her receptive ear for her constituents' ideas and concerns. We invite you to join us on January 5, 2022 as we celebrate Congresswoman Speier's many achievements and thank her for her years of remarkable service.
