Measure A to Fire the Sheriff: Why?

SMCDFA has invited Carlos Tapia, President of the San Mateo County Deputy Sheriff's Association, to speak at its February regular meeting. Deputy Sheriff Tapia's name is undoubtedly familiar, because of news coverage about an attempt to have him arrested the day after he participated in Judge LaDoris Cordell's investigation of the Sheriff's Office.
Deputy Sheriff Tapia will report on how Judge Cordell's investigation of issues raised by deputies and other personnel regarding the performance of current Sheriff Christina Corpus led the Board of Supervisors to put Measure A on the ballot in March.
SMCDFA shares concerns expressed by the Deputy Sheriff's Association (SMCDSA) and others about the current morale and staffing issues facing the Sheriff's Department. We are looking forward to Deputy Sheriff Tapia's reporting on some of the challenges faced by deputies and other staff and how those challenges have impacted their ability to ensure the safety of the communities they serve.

Task Forces for 2025
SMCDFA is still building our 2025 list of Task Forces, this will be the second part of our February meeting. There were a number of possible Task Forces suggested at our January meeting, including Electorate/Voter Analysis, Misinformation/Communications, Elections,
Social Justice, Immigration, Housing, and Climate Change.
We are currently looking at combining these into 2 Task Forces - with the option of keeping any one of these as a separate Task Force if our members desire it.
The first suggested Task Forces combines:
Electorate / Voter Analysis Misinformation / Communications
Elections
The second suggested Task Force combines:
Social Justice
Immigration
Housing
Climate Change
Bring your ideas and thoughts to the February meeting and join a Task Force!
