Speaker: Zach Kirk
Organizer, Silicon Valley De-Bug and
San Mateo County Participatory Defense
The San Mateo County Democracy for America Social Justice Task Force is pleased to present Zach Kirk from Silicon Valley De-Bug as our speaker in April. Silicon Valley De-Bug is a storytelling, community organizing, and advocacy collective based in San José, California.
De-Bug chronicles personal stories on cultural, political, and social issues from local and national movement-makers; their advocacy transforms the courts through family and community organizing, and their organizing launches the campaigns that will make life better for people in San Mateo County and the South Bay.
Zach will discuss De-Bug’s push for legislation that reforms the criminal justice system at local and state levels. He will tell us about Participatory Defense, “a community organizing model for people facing charges, their families and their communities, to impact the outcomes of the landscape of power in the court system”—what that means and how it is being taught and utilized across the country.
Zach will also discuss the state of justice in San Mateo County courts, as well as the recent De-Bug campaigns that have focused on the ICE transfer policy.
